JACKSON – In the spirit of the season Mam’selle and their customers have been giving back to the community. Debbie Swacker, owner of Mam’selle said, “Being a part of this community we recognized the need to give back to a community that has given so much to our shop and find a way to pay this generosity forward.” So they contacted United Way and the Jackson-Madison County Christmas Partners to find a way to reach out during the Christmas Season.
The opportunity to partner up with the Dream Center was presented to them and since Debbie Swacker had seen the Dream Center get started during her time serving on the United Way of West Tennessee Board she jumped at the opportunity. “I have followed this organization since it originated and have seen its growth and the good work it does for the women and children that do not have a place to turn during the worst of times. I knew the needs at the center would resonate with our customers.”
Mam’selle has been giving its customers the opportunity to ‘Gift a Dream’. Customers and employees at the shop have been bringing gifts, food, clothing and toiletries to place under the tree at the shop. By bringing in a gift to place under the tree, customers have been entered into a drawing for the chance to win a gift card to Mam’selle. With every employee participating and seemingly every customer too the gifts have overwhelmed the tree and have been being moved to the stockroom regularly to keep the floor clear for customers to be able to move about.
The Director of the Dream Center, Gail Gustafson said, “We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. These gifts will bring a lot of joy this Christmas to the 37 women and 31 children we have in our center right now. It is humbling to see that there are so many people that are willing to give to the women and kids at our center that they don’t know and will probably never meet. We are extremely thankful to Debbie, her staff and all the generous Mam’selle customers.”
